Irreverent Father's Day

Hidy Ho, crafty peeps.

Just wanted to share with y'all what my hubby and I did for my stepdad, Richard, for Father's Day.

Let me preface this entry by reiterating the fact that Richard is not a "typical" dad-type guy. If we were to have given him a card with a warm and fuzzy sentiment, he would have hurled all over the carpet (or at least he would have made "hurling" sound effects). He's just not that kind of dad. I know I've posted things about Richard before today. He and I have a very special relationship. He never had kids, but when he married my mom 14 years ago, he inherited 2 full-grown adult kids. I tell him he got off EASY. He didn't have to raise us and put up with all our teenage angst and shenanigans...he got us already finished...sort of like getting a wonderful chocolate cake from the bakery, already baked, frosted and sliced.

He got off EASY, I tell ya.

Another thing about Richard is that he has a very sharp tongue. He takes great pride in the fact that he has an acerbic wit (or is that "ascorbic wit"...both would work, actually). Anywho, he's a self-proclaimed smart ass.

That being said, I was left with no choice in what his Father's Day gift/card would be this year.

No choice at all.

So, here is the card I came up with WAIT! Can I blame this card on my muse?....sure I can.

So, here is the card my MUSE came up with.

Outside

Inside

Yeah...I made the donkeys in Photoshop. Aren't they fabulous???

Here is the gift that went along with the card. Jonathan and I made him a matching T-shirt (my own design). Doesn't Richard make a cute model? For those of you who don't get the sentiment...just humor me and say you do. For those of you who do get it... I LOVE YOU.

We All Need a Little TLC

Well, this is turning out to be a busy, busy summer! Word of advice...don't EVER tell the "cosmos" you're bored. Karma will certainly change that up in a hurry.

I was recently asked by Paulette of  TlcCreations to be a guest designer! She was perusing my blog and, afterwards, asked me to design for her! I'm glad to know people really do come visit my blog! Thank you, Paulette, for this opportunity to use your WONDERFUL images! You can visit the TLC blog HERE. Or click on the big green TlcCreations above to go to the online store!

Paulette asked me to use some of her vintage images for my projects. I chose two very fun sets to work with. The first card I made used digital images from her When In Doubt Wear Red set. I love the image I picked for my card, though I must admit, at first glance it sorta looks like she's wearing an octopus. I assure you she's NOT...so all you P.E.T.A. advocates can rest easy that no octopi were harmed in the making of this card.

I sure did have fun with my Prismacolor pencils on her. I think I used 7 different shades of red...maybe more. I made the little paper roses using a tutorial I found on Pinterest. They are easy to make and they turned out cute! I don't think I'll ever buy flower embellishments again. Oh...and I actually used my Copics on this card too. HONEST. See those little dots on the background of the image? Yep, those are Copic dots. I finally found a use for my Copics...whatyaknow. (it's baby steps, people...remember, I'm Copicphobic).

For my next project, I chose an image from the lovely Vintage Fantasy set. I am really into vintage fairies right now. I especially love the Art Nouveau feel of this image. On the original image the majority of the sky is black...so I PAINSTAKINGLY altered the image in Photoshop to remove the black from the clouds. I wanted all the clouds (or whatever they are) to be white. This took about an hour just to do that.

I printed the image on Kraft cardstock and lightly tinted it with my Prismacolor pencils to give it a worn/vintage look. It's not easy for me to be light-handed when it comes to coloring. I still overdid it on the clouds...but such is life in fairyland. I finished it off by adding touches of glitter to their wings and all over the image and the background.
