Nesting Instinct

Well...I stepped out of my card-making mode for today. I just wasn't in a card-making mood. Know what I mean? I've been combating a bad migraine for 2 days now. Yesterday, it was winning. Today...I'm really fuzzy, but I don't feel like my head's gonna s'plode...at least not imminently. My vision is still blurry (blurrier than usual)...and bright lights are still not my friends.

But, despite my current state of...dilapidation, I managed to turn out a project which I am actually quite happy with. I just picked up 3 fabulous images from A Day For Daisies, and couldn't wait to use at least one of them.

The challenge this week, over at A Day For Daisies is to create something with fabric and/or fiber.

I was thinking about using Shredded Wheat...I mean it's fiber, right?

OH...not THAT kind of fiber. Gotcha.

Instead, I used burlap (which kinda looks like Shredded Wheat) and a handful of various fibers from my "brown" stash. Don't ask me who makes 'em. I haven't a clue. Anyway, I hot-glued a chunk o' burlap to a piece of light-colored Kraft cardstock. Then, I grabbed about 6 different types of fibers and loosely twisted them together and formed it into a nest-like thing and hot glued it onto the burlap-covered background. I printed out this adorable image onto light-colored Kraft cardstock and colored it with my Prismacolor pencils. I fussy-cut out the fairies (sans wings) and the flowers. I printed the wings onto transparency then glued a light coating of micro glitter on the back side of them. I wanted them to look like REAL fairy wings (as opposed to fake fairy wings). I nestled the various pieces onto the...nest and hot glued them all down to create a VERY 3-D, touchy-feely likeness of the original image. I placed the finished piece into a shadowbox frame, hot glued some buttons onto the frame (WITH floss tied in 'em--you're welcome, Jodi)...and called it "Put-a-fork-in-it" done! I can't WAIT to hang this somewhere in my studio. I LOVE it.

Here's a detail shot of the coloring:

And, here, is the original image:

I'd like to enter my project in the following challenges:

Ingredients:
Prismacolor Pencils
fibers
burlap
Kraft cardstock
transparency
micro glitter - Hero Arts
shadowbox frame - EK Success
wooden buttons
embroidery floss - DMC
hot glue

  7. This time I'm commenting on behalf of CYP...not a problem though because I love this piece so much I have lots to say :) The way you inserted the fussy cut flowers into the edges of the nest is brilliant. It adds so much depth. Great use of burlap, too. Thanks for joining us this week at Craft Your Passion Challenges. I cannot wait to see what you come up with next!

  12. This is gorgeous! I get migraines myself so I know how you feel. Someone I know told me yesterday sometimes when she has one she will drink a gaterade and it will go away so today I tried it and voila it went away. Weird. Ive tried everything else and it usually doesnt work . Imatrex works awesome but puts me to sleep so maybe the gaterade is a better option. Hope you feel better soon! Thanks for joining Speedy Fox And Friends this week.
